Fractional gold and coins:

E-mail
These pieces should be avoided like the plague. Alongside the common one ounce coins, mints often mint fractional pieces, all the way down to one twentieth of an ounce, which is equal to one Penny weight (DWT) or just 1.55 grams.

Often promoted for multiples of the underlying metal, American, Canadian, Australian and Chinese fractional coins are bidding around fifty percent over melt on Ebay. There are two reasons these may be purchased. The first is the chance that society may collapse, and a single ounce of gold maybe worth thousands, but little use in buying a loaf of bread. The second reason maybe cost. Some may not be able to afford a full ounce of gold, and going with the Mania mentality will insist upon any gold at any cost.

For this reason, anybody thinking of fractional pieces should not be buying gold. They should be buying silver. With three grams of gold costing $140, one could buy fifty times as much silver per dollar.
