The venom with which some Goldbugs disparage numismatics really does make me wonder if they are merely trying to keep “the secret currency” within their own self interests.
For this reason, it was quite interesting to read Senator Ron Paul extolling the profits made from his coin collection in his latest book: End the Fed.
On page 34 Paul layouts very clearly the profits accrued from collecting pennies, and on page 44 he talks about the profits made by his Doctor colleagues and him in the silver dollars they accumulated. Silver dollars I presume he still owns some thirty years later
This is a very rare event indeed, because as our clients will attest, coin collecting is not about speculating with your wealth, it is about protecting your wealth through a private reserve asset.
If you are looking to profit from rising metals prices, you probably do not want to buy coins. They are a separate and distinct asset class.
If you are looking to create a Private Reserve Asset that only you and your children know you own coins could be for you.
