This tiny bit of news slipped us by today: a small American credit rating agency has downgraded the rating of the US government from AAA to AA+.

As the FT points out, the company, Egan Jones, also cut ratings for car companies and toxic debt instruments, long before the players such as S&P and Moody's even put them on notice.
